Harvest Thermal

Our Harvest Thermal system has just been a better way for our home to be heated and receive hot water. We’ve had our system since 2021, through a pilot program. Winters where we are in the Bay Area rarely fall below mid-30s, but nonetheless, since switching from our gas furnace, we’ve felt more comfortable during our colder seasons. No more dips in home temperature while waiting for the furnace to kick in. Just a steady comfortable temperature 24/7. Since warm air gets pushed out our vents so quietly, I’ve sometimes forgotten that our home is being heated at all. Hot water has always been readily available. Added to our small 4.0 kW rooftop solar and the time of use electricity plan for our ~1100-ish sq ft home, our electricity bill averaged just around $60-$70 this past winter. This includes charging for 1 electric vehicle. $5 of our utility bills is for gas. Eventually, we plan to replace our gas stove with induction stove. Installation of our system home took 4 days, which also included running new pipes and air ducts. Main components of our systems are: The Pod (Harvest Thermal’s technology), heat pump (mounted on our exterior wall), thermal battery (replaced our gas water heater), and air handler (which replaced our gas furnace in our attic). We didn’t opt to include cooling to our Harvest system, but understand it’s possible to add this in the future. Save money, make garage space, greatly lower my carbon footprint - Harvest provided wins across the board! I wanted to decarbonize my house, and learned that moving to electrical heating and water heating had a bigger impact than switching to an Electrical Car. I love Harvest's idea of using something that you already have (Water Heater) as a thermal battery. It's cheaper and more efficient than buying home electrical batteries for the same purpose. The system works great - my home stays comfortable, there's plenty of hot water, and I've cut my carbon footprint by roughly half. I was able to move the blower up into my garage ceiling saving about 9 sq. ft. of valuable space in my garage (just the water tank remains on the ground). It's also a good financial investment - saving me money in the long run.

We installed Harvest on our home, and we have found working with Harvest staff to be so easy and informative, they are so knowledgeable. Our bills are lower, our footprint is lower, and it integrates into existing appliances. We had an old gas furnace and gas water heater way beyond end of life - switching to a heat pump water heater & heating system through Harvest was our final step in whole home electrification.

As we sought to electrify our home, we installed an 8.1 kW solar system and purchased a hydrogen fuel cell car (if that counts!). We also began exploring the possibility of replacing our gas furnace with a heat pump system, and obtained several quotes from various companies. While researching the pros and cons of heat pump heaters on the internet, I discovered that there were heat pump water heaters available as well. However, it was when I stumbled upon the Harvest Thermal website that I became excited about the design of their system. The brilliance of the Harvest Thermal system lies in its utilization of a 110-gallon tank to serve as both a source of hot water for faucets and showers, as well as a supply of warm air for heating the home. This is accomplished through the use of a single heat pump that provides hot water. The Harvest pod serves as the central control system for the entire setup, regulating the flow of hot water to the tank and air handler. The system is functioning wonderfully. The hot water was available for my shower in just 15 minutes after the system was turned on. The central heating component was commissioned by the engineers and our home was brought up to the target temperature set on the thermostat promptly. The previous unsettling noise of the furnace and water heater flames and the furnace exhaust pipe running up through the roof have all been eliminated. The area around the tank and heater now has a peaceful atmosphere that was previously absent. The Harvest Thermal system has been the most gratifying upgrade to our house, as it maintains the temperature throughout the house with precise accuracy, without any fluctuations from the thermostat setting. We are delighted with our decision to install the Harvest Thermal system.

We installed Harvest-thermal 2023. We have it hooked up to our existing Nest thermostats. The system just works and we never think about it; as it's significantly more quiet than our old gas furnace.
