This business is a true cornerstone of Sonoma County. I've been shopping Friedman Bros since the 80's. While I do acknowledge that I've also had the rare less then satisfactory customer service experience my general overall experience has been that staff are usually super helpful and welcoming. My advice to management is to retain only staff that put the customer first and quickly let go of the staff who are too cool or too busy talking to other staff to make the customers the #1 priority. You still have a few workers who don't. I'm sure you know who they are. Time to draw a line in the sand. They generally have good quality lumber and in the 20' lengths not always available at competitors. If I need something very specific or in larger quantities, I like to visit the Petaluma or Santa Rosa locations for maximum selection and availability. I appreciate that Friedman upgraded their PoS and web site in recent years, it has improved my experience in store and online.
I have never met a store with more employees ready and willing to help out. You can't look confused for five seconds before someone will find you and offer to help. And every single one of them knows every item in every aisle. I'm a new homeowner and have no idea what I'm doing but these employees make it so easy. I cannot recommend this store enough. 10/5 stars.
It's really sad how far Friedman's has sunk compared to the past. For 30 years, I have always gone there instead of Home Depot whenever possible. Today, in both aisles where I needed to search for parts, I had to reach through the always-in-the-way green stairs. In the spray paint aisle, I wound up in the middle of 3 young guys ("Sales Associates"?) having a meeting where they compared their hourly wages as one of them calculated what that was in annual dollars - in front of two customers. I had to reach around one of them looking at different colors until he finally moved. Guys, now that I know what you make, I can honestly say, you're overpaid.
Great selection of nuts and bolts. Unfortunately after walking from one end of the store and back twice that's all I found. Not a single employee was visibly available to help me or the other customers that I met wandering around. Oops! Maybe it was break time?
