We are so happy with our remodel completed by Gar-Cal Construction! Initially we had engaged a contractor who turned out to be extremely flakey. I had remembered that our neighbors had raved about their contractor (who turned out to be Angel at Gar-Cal Construction). We got in touch with him and immediately it was like night and day. He was extremely responsive and we ended up going with him. We were not disappointed! Angel was on top of every step in the process, showing up on a regular basis to check in, inspect the work, explain what was happening and just make sure we were happy and all on the same page in terms of expectations. His crew were such hard workers and did a fabulous job. We were sorry to see them all go when the remodel was finally complete. We also engaged an experienced interior designer who ended up telling us that Angel was the best contractor she had ever worked with. We'll definitely be calling him for any future projects.

For a long time, we had been looking for a contractor to replace our kitchen countertop, fix up our bathroom, and fix up an old bar area. It was hard to find the right contractor. Some had no track record. Some were pushy, like they were selling a used car. Some offered labor-only, with no help picking out materials and fixtures. Some pressed us to buy the most expensive materials available and felt judgy when we declined. The bids were all over the map. Some were bare bones with just a handful of line entries. Some had ridiculous, non-standard contract provisions, e.g. requiring the OWNER to insure the contractor for the work that the contractor was doing! Then we found Gar-Cal. Angel is a professional - friendly, polite, and responsive. His proposal was easily the most detailed - everything was itemized including profit. His contract terms were actually in line with California law and industry norms. He said we could buy the materials/fixtures or he could help us identify what we wanted and he would price it out for us. He offered to introduce us to a designer, but it wasn’t necessary. Angel has the experience and an excellent eye for what looks good. e.g. we had a countertop style in mind, but he suggested a different marbling because it would better match our cabinetry. Bonus: Gar-Cal just built out a showroom where you can go and look at various samples - I can’t overstate how helpful it is to see the items in person. He and his team communicate often and are responsive to questions. The crew is polite, diligent, and friendly. It’s always hard to live through construction, but Gar-Cal did a great job to make it as pain-free as possible. Maybe the true sign of a great contractor: Anything that needed attention, such as punch-list items, were promptly and completely addressed to our satisfaction without argument or fuss. We are very happy with the finished product and highly recommend Gar-Cal (actually, I already have…to a friend who is scheduled to meet with Angel).

Angel at Gar-Cal and his crew did a fantastic job with our 2 bathroom remodels and many other items that came up. The best thing about working with Angel was the communication. There were several times we would text or speak early in the morning and late in the evening (and even weekends). We always felt like we knew what was going on, who was going to show up, when they were showing up and what they would be working on. All of the laborers were extremely polite and efficient. They also worked very clean and tidied up after themselves each day which made it easier to live in a house that is being remodeled. The two bathroom remodels were torn down to the studs and re-built and in the master we moved the shower and sinks to different locations. All the work was very professionally done. Anything that we thought needed some additional attention they were happy to make it the way we wanted it. I highly recommend Gar-Cal for your contractor needs!
